The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Badagry Federal Constituency has appointed the Lagos State Commissioner for Youth and Social Development, Hon. Mobolaji Ogunlende, as Director-General of its Campaign Council ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The appointment was announced yesterday during the inauguration of over 420 members of the Badagry Federation APC Campaign Council, comprising members from Badagry Local Government, Olorunda Local Council Development Area and Badagry West LCDA.
The party also appointed three Deputy Directors-General to oversee the campaign council's activities. They are Mr. Yahaya Lateef of the Lagos State Civil Service Commission, Mr. Aihaji Williams, a former aspirant for the Badagry Constituency I seat in the Lagos State House of Assembly, and Alhaji Adeniyi Balogun, a former chairmanship aspirant in Olorunda LCDA.
The APC also inaugurated Hon. Avoseh Hodewu Suuru, a former lawmaker, as Campaign Director-General for Badagry Local Government; Hon. Ezekiel Piponsu as Campaign Director-General for Olorunda Local Council Development Area (LCDA); and Chief Ade Agoro as Campaign Director-General for Badagry West LCDA.
The campaign council is expected to coordinate the APC's campaign for the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Lagos State Governor'ship candidate and Deputy Governor, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat, and his running mate, Princess Damilola Sonayon James, as well as Senator Idiat Oluranti Adebule, the Lagos West Senatorial candidate.
Other candidates include Hon. Onilude Segun Adeniran, the APC candidate for Badagry Federal Constituency; Hon. Oladunjoye Yusuf Olatunde, candidate for Badagry Constituency II; and Hon. Gbenu Henugbe Joseph, candidate for Badagry Constituency I in the Lagos State House of Assembly, Hon. Olanrewaju Ibrahim Layode, Lagos State Commissioner for Home Affairs
The inauguration, held at an open space in front of Chief Akinsanya Sunny Ajose Housing Estate, opposite the Nigeria French Language Village in Badagry, attracted thousands of APC supporters, party leaders and stakeholders.
Among the dignitaries at the event was Hon. Fatai Adekunle Ayoola, Director-General of the Lagos West APC Campaign Council, who commended Badagry for its performance in the 2023 general elections and urged the party to significantly improve its electoral outing in 2027.
Ayoola said Lagos State was counting on Badagry to deliver an even stronger performance for the APC, challenging party members to triple the votes recorded in the last general elections to secure landslide victories for President Tinubu and other party candidates.
He, however, expressed concern over the low voter turnout recorded in the area in 2023, noting that despite having more than 250,000 registered voters, fewer than 50,000 residents participated in the elections.
He urged party members to embark on aggressive house-to-house campaigns, mobilise eligible voters and encourage greater participation to widen the APC's winning margin in 2027.
Ayoola also attributed the emergence of a Badagry indigene as the APC's deputy governorship candidate in Lagos State to the area's strong electoral performance in 2023. He suggested that an improved result in 2027 could strengthen Badagry's prospects of securing even higher political positions in the state in the future.
In his acceptance speech and goodwill message, Ogunlende echoed Ayoola's position, urging APC members across the three councils to intensify grassroots mobilisation and work towards a resounding victory for the party.
The commissioner said a stronger electoral performance would further position Badagry for greater political opportunities and representation in the Lagos State Government, potentially creating more avenues for development in the area.
Also inaugurated into the campaign council were Hon. Sesi Oluwaseun Whingan, Member of the House of Representatives representing Badagry Federal Constituency, and Hon. Bonu Solomon Saanu, Member of the Lagos State House of Assembly representing Badagry Constituency I.
The three council chairmen in the federal constituency were also inaugurated. They are Hon. Babatunde Hunpe, Chairman of Badagry Local Government; Hon. Ajose Peter Kumayon, Chairman of Olorunda LCDA; and Hon. Rauf Ibrahim Kayode Yemaren, Chairman of Badagry West LCDA.
The inauguration is expected to mark the beginning of coordinated grassroots mobilisation across the three councils as the APC prepares for the 2027 general elections.
