The Executive Chairman of Olorunda Local Council Development Area, Hon. Ajose Peter Kumayon, has announced plans to institutionalise the council’s bursary programme as an annual educational support scheme for indigene students pursuing higher education.
Ajose disclosed this on Monday while addressing over 250 applicants undergoing physical screening for the council’s bursary award at the Iworo Secretariat.
The applicants had responded to an online application opened by the council last month, with the programme targeted at supporting Olorunda indigenes studying at undergraduate, Master’s and PhD levels.
According to Ajose, the initiative is a direct expression of his administration’s RESHAPE Agenda, which places education among its major priorities.
He assured the students that his administration would continue to give education the attention it deserves, particularly by supporting students financially and improving infrastructure needed to promote effective learning.
“Education remains a priority under our RESHAPE Agenda. We will continue to support our students and ensure that quality and affordable education remains accessible to our people,” Ajose said.
He encouraged the applicants to remain determined in their academic pursuits, noting that the council’s responsibility goes beyond awarding bursaries to creating an enabling environment for young people to succeed.
The Vice Chairman of Olorunda LCDA and Chairman of the Bursary Award Screening Committee also praised Ajose for the initiative, describing the programme as a timely intervention for students facing the rising cost of education.
He assured applicants that the committee would conduct a transparent and credible screening process, stressing that every eligible candidate would be given fair consideration.
According to him, the screening committee was made up of individuals selected for their integrity and sense of responsibility, adding that the process would be conducted without favouritism.
He urged the students to take the opportunity seriously and translate the support into improved academic performance, while appealing for continued support for the Ajose administration’s development agenda.
The ongoing screening marks a significant step towards the selection of beneficiaries for the bursary award and the council’s broader plan to strengthen educational support for students across Olorunda LCDA.
