The Federal Government has officially opened applications for its newly launched Credit for Laptops, Internet, Connectivity and Knowledge Digital Devices (C.L.I.C.K.D.) Programme, giving Nigerians an opportunity to acquire laptops, smartphones and tablets through affordable credit instead of paying the full cost upfront.

The initiative, implemented by the Nigerian Consumer Credit Corporation (CREDICORP) in partnership with the Federal Ministry of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, was unveiled on Tuesday in Abuja by the Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Dr. Bosun Tijani, alongside the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of CREDICORP, Uzoma Nwagba.

The programme is aimed at expanding access to digital devices, boosting digital inclusion and supporting skills development while encouraging the patronage of locally assembled laptops as part of the government's drive to strengthen local manufacturing.

Under the scheme, eligible Nigerians can apply online and purchase digital devices through structured repayment plans, removing the burden of making a one-time payment.

How to Apply

Applicants are required to visit the official C.L.I.C.K.D. portal at credicorp.ng/clickd and click on the "I'm Interested" button to begin the application process.

They will be asked to provide their state of residence, employment status, preferred digital device, and indicate whether they belong to any recognised digital talent programme such as the Three Million Technical Talent (3MTT), Andela Learning Community, Learn2Earn, ALX Africa, HNG Internship, AltSchool Africa or Genesys Tech Hub.

Applicants are also expected to state the purpose for the device, with options including learning, software development, freelancing, remote work, business growth, content creation and education.

Before submitting the application, they must confirm that the information provided is accurate, agree to be contacted by CREDICORP and consent to the use of their details to assess their eligibility.

Who Can Apply?

Although the online application portal accommodates a broad range of digital talent programmes, the Federal Government said the current rollout is limited to a 1,000-laptop pilot phase for fellows of its Three Million Technical Talent (3MTT) Programme.

According to CREDICORP Managing Director Uzoma Nwagba, the first batch of the initiative has already commenced in Abuja, where 77 beneficiaries received their laptops, while the remaining devices will be distributed to qualified participants across other states in phases.

The inclusion of programmes such as ALX Africa, Andela Learning Community, HNG Internship, AltSchool Africa and Genesys Tech Hub on the application form has, however, raised expectations that participants from those communities may be considered in future phases as the programme expands nationwide.

Repayment Details Yet to Be Announced

Despite opening applications, CREDICORP has not yet disclosed key financial details of the scheme, including the interest rate, repayment duration or whether beneficiaries will be required to make an initial down payment before receiving their devices.

The agency previously adopted a phased implementation strategy for its flagship consumer credit programme, which was first introduced for federal civil servants in 2024 before gradually expanding to other categories of Nigerians.

With the launch of C.L.I.C.K.D., the Federal Government hopes to bridge the digital divide by making essential technology more accessible to students, entrepreneurs, software developers, freelancers and other Nigerians who depend on digital tools for learning, work and business.
