Hundreds of women across Olorunda Local Council Development Area on Tuesday benefited from various empowerment items and cash support as the council hosted its 2026 Women Symposium and Empowerment Programme in Badagry, Lagos State.
The event, held at the Golden Rock Event Centre beside GBAS Shopping Complex, Awkuzu Bus Stop, Ilado, was organised by the administration of the Executive Chairman of Olorunda LCDA, Hon. The symposium, themed Healthy Women Healthy Families Thriving Communities, attracted women groups, community leaders, government officials and other stakeholders from within and outside the council area.
Speaking at the programme, Hon. Ajose Peter Kumayon said his administration remains committed to investing in women through empowerment initiatives, healthcare support and skills development programmes aimed at improving family welfare and sustainable community growth.
According to him, women occupy strategic positions in every society and must be continuously supported through education, vocational training and economic opportunities.
The council chairman encouraged women, especially younger ones, to embrace digital entrepreneurship, content creation, social media marketing and online businesses as alternative sources of income and self development.
He also highlighted several empowerment programmes already implemented by his administration through the Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation Department, including the distribution of sewing machines, refrigerators, hairdressing equipment, pepper grinding machines and vocational training support for women and youths.

She added that the Kumayon administration has continued to support women inclusion and development through participation in programmes such as COWLSO, National Women Conference activities and empowerment initiatives across the council area.
The symposium featured lectures by Professor Khadijah Olaniyan Shobowale of Lagos State University, who spoke on women and children empowerment, while Mrs. Janet Osafehinti, Matron of LASU Badagry Campus, delivered a lecture on healthy living for women.
One of the major highlights of the programme was the distribution of empowerment items to beneficiaries. Cash gifts were also distributed to selected beneficiaries, while raffle draws were conducted to select winners of additional empowerment packages.
