The Lagos State Commissioner for Home Affairs, Olanrewaju Ibrahim Layode, has called on political leaders and stakeholders in Badagry Federal Constituency to unite behind the re-election bid of Sesi Oluwaseun Whingan, stressing that continuity in leadership is critical for sustainable development in the area.
Layode made the appeal on April 18 during a joint consultation meeting with leaders drawn from the eleven old wards in the constituency. The meeting was held at Whingan’s residence in Ibereko, where party faithful and community leaders gathered to deliberate on the political future of Badagry.
Addressing the gathering, Layode described Whingan’s performance at the National Assembly as commendable, noting that his proactive approach to lawmaking has positioned Badagry for greater opportunities at the federal level. He argued that the long-standing practice of rotating representatives after a single term has limited the constituency’s influence and access to key benefits.
According to him, effective lawmaking at the national level requires experience and continuity, adding that lawmakers need time to grow into ranking positions where they can wield greater influence. He urged stakeholders to “break the jinx” of one-term representation and allow capable legislators to build on their achievements.
The meeting was attended by prominent figures, including retired Customs boss and former House of Representatives aspirant, Chief Rabiu Amusa, Chief Ade Agoro, former APC Chairman of Badagry West, Hon. Dansu Dominic, Hon. Akin Ogunlana, Hon. Peter Atindekun, Mr. Akinosi Olawale as well as party leaders from across the wards.
In his remarks, Whingan expressed appreciation for the support and confidence reposed in him by the leaders. He reaffirmed his commitment to delivering quality representation and advancing the interests of Badagry at the National Assembly.
The lawmaker explained that returning for a second term would elevate him to a ranking status, which would, in turn, open up more opportunities for the constituency in terms of projects and federal interventions. He disclosed that several projects he facilitated into the 2025 and 2026 budgets are yet to receive funding but hold significant potential for the development of Badagry once implemented.
Whingan assured constituents that he would continue to pursue policies and initiatives that promote human capital development and economic empowerment, emphasizing that sustained representation remains key to unlocking greater federal presence in the constituency.
