The Executive Chairman of Olorunda Local Council Development Area, Hon. Ajose Peter Kumayon, has urged residents of the council area to take full advantage of the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration exercise and the Lagos West Senatorial District Mega Registration currently taking place at Badagry Grammar School.
Ajose made the appeal on Wednesday after visiting and inspecting the registration centre alongside the Executive Chairman of Badagry Local Government, Hon. Babatunde Hunpe, former Member of the House of Representatives.
During the visit, the Olorunda chairman monitored the registration process and interacted with residents at the centre, particularly those from Olorunda LCDA. He encouraged eligible residents to use the opportunity to register for the first time, transfer their registration, or update their voter information.
Ajose described the Permanent Voter Card as a vital instrument of civic participation, stressing that no eligible resident should miss the opportunity to obtain or update it.
According to him, the Lagos West Senatorial District Mega Registration, which began on Tuesday, April 7, will continue until Sunday, April 12, 2026, giving residents enough time to regularise their voter status before the next electoral cycle.
He noted that democracy can only flourish when citizens actively participate in the electoral process and make their voices count through the ballot.
"Many people wait until election periods before discovering that they are not registered or that their details are incorrect. This exercise is an opportunity to avoid such disappointment and ensure that you are ready when it matters most," he said.
Ajose further appealed to newly eligible voters, especially young people who recently turned 18, to seize the opportunity and register.
He also urged residents who have relocated to a new area, as well as those whose voter cards are damaged or missing, to visit the centre and update their details.
"Every eligible resident of Olorunda must see this as a civic responsibility. Your voter's card remains your voice and your power. It is the only means through which you can decide the future of your community and the kind of leadership you want," Ajose said.
The council boss commended officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission for maintaining what he described as a smooth, orderly and well-coordinated registration process.
He expressed confidence that more residents would turn out before the end of the exercise, adding that increased participation would strengthen democracy and ensure that the people of Olorunda are not left out of decisions that affect their future.
