The Governor of Lagos State and Visitor to Lagos State University, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has appointed the Alara of Ilara, Oba Olufolarin Ogunsanwo, as the sixth Chancellor of the institution.
The appointment was announced in a statement issued on Sunday by the Registrar and Secretary to Council, Mr Emmanuel Fanu.
Oba Ogunsanwo succeeds Gbolahan Elias, who served as the fifth Chancellor of the university and recently completed his tenure.
According to the statement, the appointment was made in line with the provisions of the Lagos State University Law 2004 as amended, which empowers the Visitor to the university to appoint a Chancellor.
It noted that the new Chancellor’s tenure is for a single term of five years, effective from February 13, 2026, and is renewable once.
The management and governing council of LASU congratulated Oba Ogunsanwo on his appointment, expressing confidence that his leadership and royal experience would further strengthen the university’s vision and mission.
They also conveyed deep appreciation to Elias for what they described as his meritorious service and contributions to the growth and stability of the institution during his time as Chancellor.
