Lagos has been ranked the world’s fastest growing emerging technology ecosystem, according to the 2025 Global Tech Ecosystem Index released by Globalstats11 in collaboration with startup intelligence firm Dealroom.co.
The report, which assessed 288 tech hubs across 69 countries, placed Lagos ahead of several established global innovation centres, including Istanbul, Pune and Mumbai.
Findings from the index show that Lagos has consolidated its position as Africa’s leading tech hub, attracting over 9.3 trillion naira in startup investments between 2019 and 2024 and hosting about 65 percent of Nigeria’s technology startups. The city also accounts for nearly 70 percent of Africa’s unicorn companies, driven largely by growth in fintech, logistics, artificial intelligence and digital services.
The ecosystem is currently valued at more than 15 billion dollars, underscoring Lagos’ rising influence in Africa’s digital economy and global innovation space.
Industry analysts attribute the rapid expansion to sustained policy support and infrastructure development by the administration of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu under the T.H.E.M.E.S.+ development agenda, which places strong emphasis on digital transformation and private sector growth.
A key driver of the ecosystem is Lagos Innovates, an initiative of the Lagos State Employment Trust Fund, which supports startups through funding access, workspace vouchers, innovation hubs and talent development programmes.
Lagos currently hosts a dense network of innovation centres across Yaba, Ikeja, Victoria Island and Lekki, with many startups focusing on digital finance, identity solutions, cryptocurrency platforms and small business growth.
Confirming the development, the Lagos State Government described the ranking as a major global endorsement of its innovation-focused policies.
The statement was issued by Gbenga Omotoso, Honourable Commissioner for the Lagos State Ministry of Information and Strategy, who said the achievement further strengthens Lagos’ position as Africa’s foremost technology hub and a rising force in the global tech economy.
With the latest ranking, Lagos continues to attract international attention as a destination for tech investment, entrepreneurship and digital innovation.
