INEC Debunks Viral APC Candidates List for Lagos Reps Seats, Warns Against Fake Election Notice

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has dismissed as fake a purported public notice circulating on social media that claims to contain the names of candidates of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for Federal House of Representatives elections in Lagos State ahead of the 2027 General Election.

In a statement released on its verified X handle, the electoral body described the document as fraudulent, misleading and entirely unauthorised, stressing that it did not originate from the Commission.

According to INEC, the attention of the Commission was drawn to the viral publication which falsely presents itself as an official notice announcing APC candidates for House of Representatives contests in Lagos State.

The Commission unequivocally denied any involvement in the document and urged Nigerians to disregard it.

"For the avoidance of doubt, the Commission has not authorised or published any such notice," INEC stated.

The electoral umpire further clarified that the publication did not emerge from any of its official channels or established processes, adding that the signature appearing on the document was forged and does not belong to the Secretary to the Commission.

INEC warned political parties, stakeholders, members of the media and the general public against relying on unverified information, particularly as political activities gradually gather momentum ahead of the next general elections.

The Commission reiterated that all official announcements concerning electoral matters would only be communicated through its recognised platforms and authorised communication channels.

The clarification comes amid growing circulation of election-related materials on social media, a development that has raised concerns about the spread of misinformation and attempts to mislead the public.

INEC assured Nigerians of its commitment to transparency, credibility and timely dissemination of accurate information, urging citizens to verify all election-related updates through official sources before sharing or acting on them.

The Commission maintained that safeguarding the integrity of the electoral process remains a top priority and pledged to continue providing authentic information on all electoral activities across the country.
