Kumayon Meets FRSC Leadership, To Take Strategic Action Against Surge in Road Accidents in Olorunda

The Executive Chairman of Olorunda Local Council Development Area, Hon. Ajose Peter Kumayon, on Monday hosted senior officials of the Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, in a strategic meeting focused on strengthening partnership and tackling the rising cases of road crashes across the council.

Receiving the delegation led by Deputy Route Commander, DCC Mr. T. A. Iyanda, Hon. Ajose described the visit as coming at a critical time, following a series of fatal accidents along the Badagry Lagos Expressway.

He pointed out that areas including Mosafejo, Mowo and Aradagun had recently suffered heartbreaking losses, stressing the need for swift and coordinated measures to protect road users and communities.

Speaking earlier, Mr. Iyanda said the team came to commend the Chairman for his continuous support to the FRSC, while also seeking closer collaboration in traffic control and road safety enforcement within Olorunda LCDA.

He raised alarm over frequent crashes at major junctions, blaming most incidents on motorists and commercial motorcycle riders who drive against traffic.

The Deputy Route Commander disclosed that several offenders had already been arrested as part of ongoing operations, noting that wrong way driving remains the major trigger of multiple vehicle collisions in the area.

He added that the Command had formally engaged the Federal Ministry of Works regarding the road’s design, particularly problematic turning points and junction layouts that encourage dangerous manoeuvres.

According to him, saving lives remains the Corps’ primary responsibility, and continuous engagement with stakeholders is key to finding lasting solutions.

In his remarks, Hon. Ajose stressed that comprehensive Environmental Impact and Environmental Audit Assessments should have guided the planning and construction of the expressway to guarantee safety and long term value for residents and commuters.

He assured that his administration would continue to partner with the FRSC and relevant bodies to enhance road safety and curb avoidable fatalities.

Those in attendance included the Vice Chairman, Hon. Adele Bolaji Solomon; Chief of Staff, Hon. Cornelius Akinyele; Personal Assistant on Political Matters and Intergovernmental Relations, Mr. Adegboyega Oladiran; Media Aide, Mr. Olaniyi Idowu; Assistant Route Commander, Mr. M. M. Whenu; and Road Marshal Assistant, AMA I, Mr. O. E. Fayomibo.

The meeting underscored Olorunda LCDA’s firm commitment to public safety and proactive governance.
