Iworo Smart School: Kumayon Leads Inspection Tour Ahead of Minister’s Commissioning in Olorunda

The Executive Chairman of Olorunda Local Council Development Area, Hon. Ajose Peter Kumayon, on Monday led top education officials on an inspection tour of the ultra-modern facility in Iworo, in preparation for the official commissioning of the Iworo Smart School by the Honourable Minister of Education, Dr. Olatunji Alausa.

The high powered delegation from District V of the Lagos State Ministry of Education was headed by the Director of Schools Administration, Mr Rev Adisa Daudu, as they assessed the level of readiness of the school for its formal launch.

Addressing stakeholders during the visit, Hon Kumayon expressed profound appreciation to the Oniworo of Iworo Kingdom, His Royal Majesty, Oba Dr Friday Oladele Kosoko Ogundeyi II, for his instrumental role in facilitating the establishment of the Smart School in the community. He disclosed that the Federal Government had built only six Smart Schools across Nigeria, one in each geopolitical zone, with Iworo proudly hosting the South West facility.

The council chairman reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to the growth and sustainability of the institution, assuring that necessary support would be provided to ensure the school operates optimally in line with the vision of its founders. He stressed that government would continue to safeguard lives and property within the school environment, including students, staff and the massive infrastructure put in place.

Hon Kumayon also formally welcomed the pioneer teachers and students, charging them to embrace excellence and set a solid standard as the first beneficiaries of the prestigious institution.

In his remarks, Mr Daudu urged the Iworo community to cherish the rare opportunity of hosting a Federal Government school, noting that only six such Smart Schools exist nationwide. He revealed that the Minister of Education would personally commission the school in the near future.

He further advised parents of the pioneer students to see themselves as privileged, explaining that while the current intake is enjoying free benefits, future admissions would be conducted through Computer Based Tests and may not come with the same incentives.

The delegation carried out a thorough inspection of the school’s facilities, including state of the art classrooms, an e library, ICT training centre, auditorium and other support infrastructure designed to promote digital learning and academic excellence.

Delivering a goodwill message, the Oniworo of Iworo Kingdom commended Hon Kumayon for his unwavering support towards the development of the school. He pledged to facilitate the release of two branded school buses to ease transportation for students to and from the institution.

Present at the inspection were the School Principal, Mrs K M Onafuye; Head of Department of Education, Olorunda LCDA, Mrs Bunmi Idowu Onasile; media aides to the chairman, Mr Olaniyi Idowu and Mr Richard Akinyele; traditional leaders including Baale Abanishe, Chief Odunsi Babatunde; Baale Etesa, Chief Odunsi Mustapha Adeshina; the Alajaye of Iworo Kingdom, High Chief Kosoko Abel; alongside members of the teaching staff.

The inspection exercise marked a major milestone towards the formal opening of the Iworo Smart School, reflecting the strong partnership between government, traditional institutions and the community in advancing quality education in Olorunda LCDA and across Badagry axis.
