The Executive Chairman of Badagry Local Government, Hon. Babatunde Hunpe, has been awarded an Honorary Doctorate in Strategic Leadership and Public Resources Management in West Africa by the Chartered Institute of Public Resources Management and Politics.
The prestigious recognition, which also saw him inducted into the Institute’s 2026 Hall of Fame, was presented during a brief but significant ceremony held at his office in Badagry.
The delegation from the Ghana based institute was led by Dr. Babatunde Newton, the 2nd Vice President Academic, alongside Engr. Mike Shey Phillips and Mrs. Victoria Olanrewaju, who formally conferred the honorary doctorate on the council boss.
Established in 1995, the Institute described Hunpe as an exceptional leader whose more than three decades of service in public administration and legislative duties have been marked by strategic vision, integrity and disciplined execution. It highlighted his impactful roles as Special Adviser to former Lagos State governors, Babatunde Raji Fashola and Akinwunmi Ambode, as well as his tenure as a member of the House of Representatives.
According to the Institute, the honorary doctorate is in recognition of his steadfast leadership, ethical standards and transformative contributions to governance and public resource management across the region.
In his acceptance remarks, Hunpe expressed deep appreciation for the honour, describing it as both humbling and inspiring.
For an international institute to have noticed my humble contributions over the years is amazing, he said. I am deeply honoured, and this recognition inspires me to continue delivering purposeful and transformative leadership for the people of Badagry. I pledge to remain committed to excellence, integrity and service, ensuring that our community continues to grow, prosper and thrive under a vision driven administration.
The award adds an international feather to Hunpe’s cap and further underscores his growing profile in public service and grassroots governance.
