Hunpe Takes Governance to the Grassroots, Makes Historic Visit to Igborosun CDC Meeting

In a move widely described as unprecedented in Badagry Local Government, the Chairman, Hon Babatunde Hunpe, on Saturday took governance directly to the people by attending the Community Development Committee meeting of Igborosun Community within their domain.

The visit marked a clear departure from the usual top down approach to local administration, as the council boss left the comfort of his office to sit with community leaders and residents, listening firsthand to their concerns and development priorities. Residents and stakeholders at the meeting described the engagement as a refreshing and people centered approach to governance that has rarely been witnessed at the local government level.

Discussions at the meeting were focused on key grassroots needs affecting daily life in the community. These included the grading of community access roads, urgent drainage interventions to address flooding, repairs of existing electricity transformers, and the provision of new transformers to improve power supply in the area.

Speaking during the engagement, Hon Hunpe stressed the importance of collaboration between government and the people, noting that sustainable development is best achieved when communities are actively involved in decision making and implementation.

Sharing details of the meeting on his official Facebook page after the visit, the Chairman wrote that the engagement was productive and solution driven. He emphasized that working hand in hand with government makes development easier, faster, and more impactful.

Community leaders at the Igborosun CDC meeting commended the Chairman for the gesture, describing it as a strong signal of inclusive leadership and genuine concern for grassroots development. They expressed optimism that the issues discussed would receive prompt attention and translate into visible improvements in the community.

The visit is being seen by many observers as a significant step toward strengthening trust between the local government and communities in Badagry, while setting a new standard for community engagement and responsive leadership at the grassroots level.
