Several months after the successful completion of the maiden edition of the Badagry Blood Drive Initiative, its convener and change advocate, Hunye Minasu, has taken time to publicly reflect on the journey, the impact, and the people who made the life saving project possible.

The Badagry Blood Drive 1.0 marked a historic moment for the Badagry community as it stood out as the first blood drive initiative of its kind in the area. Driven by a clear vision to address preventable loss of lives caused by inadequate blood supply, the initiative brought together government officials, private individuals, medical professionals, corporate bodies, media organizations, and concerned citizens who rallied around a shared purpose.

Speaking on the project, Minasu emphasized that the success of the blood drive was not the effort of one person but the result of collective commitment and belief in a dream that prioritizes human life. He expressed deep appreciation to everyone who supported the initiative through financial contributions, logistics, publicity, and professional services.

Among those acknowledged were the Executive Chairman of Badagry Local Government, Hon Babatunde Hunpe, the Lagos State Commissioner for Youth and Social Development, Hon Mobolaji Ogunlende, as well as notable supporters including SARA O Events and Design, Mr Aderoju Okunade of ChronikPlus Service Ltd, Dr David Assogba, Mr Olufemi Sewanu Iroko, Hon Damilola Sonayon James, Dr Sewanu J Isaac, Mr Aina Fasinu, Prince Doheto Mesi, Mr Sunday Sewanu Ogunfowora, Dr Sewhude Akande, Mr Ovi Manuel Kuponu II, Mr Afeez Abdulsalam of Rosh Beach Resort, Mr Augustine Kiki, Hon Falade A Johnson, Dr Mohammed of Harmony Hospital, and Mr Miyise Richard Surulere Fasinu.

Minasu noted that while these were the names he could readily recall, the appreciation extended to everyone who contributed in any capacity, stressing that every act of support helped turn the vision into reality.

Special recognition was also given to media organizations that amplified the message of the blood drive and helped mobilize public participation. Media platforms such as CityMood Badagry, Badagry Online Radio, De Voice Newspaper, Badagry Loaded, Badagry Today, and Street of Badagry were commended for believing in the cause and using their platforms to inform and inspire the community.

According to Minasu, the impact of Badagry Blood Drive 1.0 goes beyond a single event. He warned that halting the initiative could lead to avoidable loss of lives due to the persistent challenge of blood shortages in hospitals. This, he said, is why the journey must continue.

With renewed determination, he called on stakeholders and residents alike to once again unite in anticipation of Badagry Blood Drive 2.0, reaffirming that when a community comes together with a shared sense of responsibility, lives can be saved and lasting change can be achieved.
