Dr. David Opeyemi Oke, Chief Executive Officer of the DOOKE Innovation Centre in Ajara, Badagry, has been appointed Vice Chairman of the Lagos World Trade Centre, a development that places Badagry firmly on the map of global trade and innovation leadership.
Announcing the appointment in a public statement, Dr. Oke described the new role as far beyond personal achievement, noting that it reflects a broader mission to reposition Lagos and Nigeria as a credible, globally connected trade gateway at a defining moment for Africa.
He said Lagos occupies a strategic position at the intersection of enterprise, logistics, capital and ambition, but stressed that fully harnessing this advantage will require strong institutions capable of convening key stakeholders, connecting markets and facilitating trade at globally accepted standards.
Dr. Oke expressed deep gratitude to the founding fathers and leadership of the World Trade Centre Lagos for the trust placed in him, describing the opportunity as a chance to give renewed momentum to long held visions that now have the right timing and structure.
Looking ahead, he pledged to work closely with governments, the organized private sector, investors and trade institutions across Africa and the world, affirming that Africa is ready for expanded global trade engagement and that Lagos is poised to lead the charge.
Observers note that his appointment also shines a spotlight on Badagry, particularly the DOOKE Innovation Centre in Ajara, which he leads. The centre is widely known as a youth focused tech training and empowerment hub, providing young people with digital skills and innovation driven opportunities.
Stakeholders say Dr. Oke’s elevation to the leadership of the Lagos World Trade Centre highlights the growing influence of community rooted innovation initiatives in shaping national and international economic discourse, while reinforcing Badagry’s rising relevance in Lagos State’s development story.
