The Lagos education community is basking in pride as Mr Raheem Kehinde Hassan, a distinguished Chemistry teacher at Lagos State Model Senior College, Kankon, Badagry, has been selected for the highly prestigious Fulbright Teaching Excellence and Achievement TEA Programme in the United States.
Raheem’s selection places him among only four successful candidates from Nigeria and one of about one hundred educators chosen globally, marking a rare and historic milestone for Badagry, Lagos State and Nigeria’s public education system.
The announcement, celebrated widely by colleagues and education stakeholders, was first shared on Facebook by his colleague, Mr Augustine Kiki, who described the achievement as a powerful affirmation of dedication, professionalism and global relevance nurtured within Lagos State public schools.
Fresh from his recognition as the First Runner Up and Second Best Teacher in Education District V, Raheem’s Fulbright selection further confirms a career built on sustained excellence rather than momentary success. His journey reflects deliberate growth, intellectual discipline and an unshakable belief that teaching is a transformative calling.
At Lagos State Model Senior College, Kankon, Raheem is known not just as a Chemistry teacher but as a mentor, innovator and catalyst for student achievement. His learner centred teaching methods, strong mentorship culture and commitment to critical thinking have consistently inspired students to aim higher and compete confidently at state and national levels.
Over the years, he has mentored students who have excelled in the Lagos State Spelling Bee Competition, IITA Agricultural Competition, the 774 Young Nigerian Scientist Presidential Award Competition, Junior Engineers Technicians and Scientists competitions, Environmental Bee Club contests, as well as Chemistry and Mathematics competitions.
His impact has also earned him several honours, including First Position at the IHS Project Competition in the Teachers Category, First Runner Up at the Wema Bank Teachers Competition, the Mentorship Maestro Award at the Global Teacher Assembly, and the African Future Leadership Award as Innovative Educator of the Year 2025.
Raheem holds a degree in Chemistry Education from Ekiti State University, Ado Ekiti, where he graduated with a Second Class Upper Division in 2019. He began his teaching career at Araromi Ilogbo Senior Secondary School, Oko Afo, Badagry, before moving to his current posting at Lagos State Model Senior College, Kankon.
Beyond the classroom, he is deeply committed to continuous personal and professional development, with keen interests in climate change education, renewable energy and modern twenty first century teaching methodologies. He strongly believes that education must go beyond textbooks to nurture creativity, problem solving skills, personal growth and real world readiness.
The Fulbright TEA Programme offers Raheem a global platform for advanced instructional training, cross cultural exchange and exposure to best practices in education. Colleagues believe the experience will further strengthen his capacity to impact students, enrich classroom practice and contribute meaningfully to education development in Lagos State and Nigeria at large.
Describing the moment as a collective victory, staff of Lagos State Model Senior College, Kankon, noted that Raheem’s success rekindles confidence in public education and proves that world class educators are being groomed within the system.
As he prepares to represent his school, Education District V, Lagos State and Nigeria on the global stage, expectations remain high that he will return more empowered, more innovative and even more impactful.
Raheem Kehinde Hassan’s journey from Kankon in Badagry to the global education spotlight stands as a powerful reminder that when passion meets purpose, excellence earns global recognition.
