In a major update to its admission screening process, Lagos State University (LASU) has rolled out a new formula for calculating aggregate scores for the 2025/2026 academic session.
The university announced the change as part of its ongoing admission screening registration, urging all prospective candidates to familiarize themselves with the revised grading system to avoid miscalculations and unrealistic expectations.
Breakdown of the New LASU Aggregate Formula:
According to the new formula, candidates’ aggregate scores will now be computed using a combination of their JAMB score and O’Level results — each weighted and scored differently.
1. JAMB Score Calculation:
Candidates are required to multiply their JAMB score by 0.15.
For example: A JAMB score of 280 becomes 280 × 0.15 = 42 points.
2. O’Level Result Calculation:
Only the best five relevant subjects from the candidate's O’Level results will be considered, with the following grading scale:

For example: If a student scores A1, B2, B3, C4, and C5 in relevant subjects, the total O’Level points will be 8 + 7 + 6 + 5 + 4 = 30 points.
Total Aggregate Score:
To determine the final aggregate score, candidates must add their calculated JAMB points and O’Level points.
Example: 42 (JAMB) + 30 (O’Level) = 72% Aggregate Score
This system will now serve as the official benchmark for determining admission eligibility into LASU’s various programmes.
