With the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC) deadline for party-led substitution or withdrawal of candidates now officially elapsed, the All Progressives Congress (APC) and all political parties are expected to have locked their chairmanship and vice-chairmanship candidates for the July 2025 local government elections across the 57 Local Government Areas (LGAs) and Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) in the state.

According to LASIEC’s electoral timetable released in April 2025, political parties had until Saturday, May 31, 2025, to submit any withdrawal or substitution of candidates through a written notification signed by the party’s secretary. The commission made it clear in Item VII (i) of the official guidelines that:

“A political party may withdraw the nomination of its candidate by notice in writing, signed by the secretary of the political party and delivered to the Commission between Thursday, May 29 and Saturday, May 31, 2025.”

This deadline has now passed, effectively ending any legal room for intra-party adjustments, barring any backdoor arrangements or violations of the LASIEC guidelines. However, candidates themselves still have a window of withdrawal, with LASIEC stating:

“A candidate withdrawing his/her nomination shall indicate in writing to that effect to his/her political party which shall forward same to the Commission between Monday, June 2 and Monday, June 9, 2025.”

As of the latest reports, no candidate withdrawals have been made public, solidifying the APC’s line-up ahead of the upcoming grassroots election showdown.
