The Executive Chairman of Badagry Local Government, Hon. Babatunde Hunpe, has taken decisive action to restore order and ensure safety at the Badagry Roundabout. Following Sunday’s tragic accident, the chairman has enforced a strict no-parking and no-trading rule on the road median, one of the busiest entry points into Badagry and Nigeria’s gateway to other West African countries.
Hon. Hunpe, accompanied by his Chief Security Adviser, CSP Johnson Adagba (Rtd), and the Divisional Police Officer, CSP Folajimi Agosile, visited the roundabout on Sunday to inspect the area and assess safety concerns. The section of the median where Saturday’s accident occurred has now been marked as a no-trading and no-parking zone. Vendors, vehicles, tricycles, and motorcycles previously operating there have been relocated to safer, designated areas.
Enforcement of the new directive began on Monday under the supervision of the Vice-Chairman, Hon. Akeem Adeyemi.
Since assuming office, Hon. Hunpe has made it a priority to give the roundabout a facelift. He has held several meetings with traders, conducted on-the-spot inspections, and formed a committee to oversee the redevelopment process with clear goals and timelines.
Speaking on the latest development, Hon. Hunpe emphasized that public safety would always come first.
“Our people’s safety comes before commerce. We are working with the police, KAI, LASTMA, RTEAN, NURTW, and other stakeholders to create a safer, cleaner, and more organized environment. The image of a place is defined by what we see, and that is why repositioning the Badagry Roundabout remains one of our top priorities,” he said.
The council’s latest effort reinforces its commitment to improving safety, maintaining order, and enhancing the aesthetic appeal of Badagry’s central hub.
