The National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) has congratulated the Southwest leadership of the Association of Tourism Practitioners of Nigeria (ATPN) as the region marks its first anniversary under the stewardship of its National Vice President, Hon Apata Samson Olatunji.
In a statement released in Abuja, the NYCN praised Hon Apata and his team for a year marked by strong leadership, strategic engagement, and visible improvements within the tourism sector across the Southwest. The Council noted that the ATPN Southwest has worked tirelessly to strengthen tourism structures, raise professional standards, and open new opportunities for young people and local communities.
According to the Youth Council, Hon Apata’s first year in office has helped boost destination visibility in the region and has rekindled collaboration among tourism professionals, cultural institutions, and government bodies. The Council described his impact as “exemplary and progressive,” adding that his leadership continues to inspire confidence among practitioners and youth stakeholders.
The NYCN also commended ATPN’s proactive initiatives and consistent advocacy efforts, which it said are contributing to the growth of the tourism value chain. With preparations underway for the inaugural South West International Tourism Expo scheduled for 2025, the Council called for even stronger partnerships across the public and private sectors. It emphasized that coordinated action will be crucial in expanding the region’s tourism footprint, preserving cultural heritage, and positioning the Southwest as a globally competitive destination.
Reaffirming its commitment to deeper partnership, the NYCN expressed readiness to work closely with ATPN to promote youth inclusion, expand capacity-building programmes, and support tourism-driven regional development.
In a separate anniversary message, the Office of the National Vice President of ATPN Southwest celebrated one year of what it described as “purposeful leadership and undeniable impact.” The region’s secretary, Alaketu S. Abiodun Olamide, praised Hon Apata for energizing members across the zone and championing initiatives that have strengthened the association’s presence and credibility.
The message highlighted the renewed enthusiasm among tourism practitioners, acknowledging that the achievements recorded in just one year reflect Hon Apata’s dedication and vision for a more vibrant industry. It further expressed optimism for the years ahead, noting that the Southwest region is committed to building on the momentum of the past year.
Both communications echoed a shared belief that the tourism sector in Southwest Nigeria is on a promising path, driven by collaboration, innovation, and a renewed commitment to growth. As year two begins, expectations are high for deeper impact, expanded partnerships, and a stronger push toward positioning the region as one of Nigeria’s leading tourism hubs.
