President Bola Tinubu has expressed deep sadness over the rising wave of insecurity in the country, especially the killing of Brigadier General Musa Uba by terrorists and the kidnapping of schoolgirls in Kebbi State.
Troubled by the situation, the President sent Vice President Kashim Shettima to Kebbi to console the state government and reassure the parents and guardians of the abducted girls that the government is doing everything possible to secure their quick release.
He also extended condolences to the military following the loss of soldiers who died in a clash with terrorists in Borno State.
According to a statement by his spokesperson Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu was fully briefed on both incidents and was visibly distressed. He described the abduction of the schoolgirls as heartbreaking, especially after intelligence reports had warned of a possible attack. He also commended Governor Mohammed Nasir Idris for efforts made to prevent the kidnapping.
The President lamented the breach that led to the abduction at the boarding school in Maga, Kebbi State, and called on communities across the country to work closely with security agencies by sharing information that can strengthen the fight against terrorism and banditry. He stressed that the military, police and DSS cannot effectively protect the people without support from local communities.
As Commander in Chief, he said he is deeply pained by the deaths of soldiers who lost their lives in active service and prayed for the families of General Musa Uba and all other fallen heroes. He added that he is equally troubled by the traumatic disruption of the education of innocent schoolgirls by what he described as heartless terrorists.
The President said he has directed security agencies to move swiftly and ensure the safe return of the girls. He appealed to community leaders and citizens, especially those in areas facing insecurity, to share actionable intelligence, noting that their cooperation is vital in overcoming the challenges threatening national peace and stability.
