In a series of coordinated operations across the country within the past 24 hours, Nigerian Army troops have arrested 54 terror and criminal suspects and rescued nine kidnapped victims.
A source at Army Headquarters confirmed to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Wednesday that the operations also led to the neutralisation of several terrorists, recovery of a large cache of arms and ammunition, as well as rustled livestock. Illegal oil bunkering sites were also destroyed.
In the North-East, troops of Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK) successfully repelled an attack by ISWAP/Boko Haram fighters at Ngirboa Bridge in Gujba, Yobe State. The source added that a relative of ISWAP terrorists surrendered to troops of 192 Battalion in Gwoza, Borno, after fleeing Kunde village in the Mandara Mountains.
In the North-West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA troops rescued eight kidnap victims in Tungar Miragumi and Zugu villages, Bukkuyum axis of Zamfara State, and recovered 21 rustled sheep in Anka. Similarly, 143 rustled sheep were recovered in Sabon Birni, Sokoto State, while a terrorist camp was destroyed. Troops also killed one terrorist in an encounter at Sabuwa, Katsina State.
The source further revealed that a policeman allegedly providing cover for some Abuja-based suspects was arrested and handed over for investigation.
Meanwhile, troops disrupted illegal oil bunkering in Bayelsa and Rivers, seizing large quantities of suspected adulterated AGO, pipes, hoses, and other equipment. Two suspected sea pirates with locally made weapons and a fibre boat were also arrested in Rivers, while NDLEA operatives, in a joint operation in Bayelsa, arrested four narcotics suspects.
The source reassured Nigerians of the army’s commitment to safeguarding the country and urged citizens to continue sharing timely information with security agencies.
