Ikeja LG Reminds Residents: You Need a Voter’s Card to Vote.

The Ikeja Local Government Area of Lagos State has reminded residents that they could lose their right to vote in upcoming elections if they fail to take part in the Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC) ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise.

Speaking in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Tuesday, the council’s Vice Chairman, Mr. Abisola Omisore, urged residents to take the exercise seriously.

He explained that INEC officials are available at the council’s designated registration centres across all wards to assist people, and the process is completely free.

“We’re appealing to youths, traders, artisans, and even civil servants—please update your voter cards if necessary. Don’t wait until the last minute,” Omisore said.

He also advised those who have recently turned 18 to register so they can exercise their voting rights, as well as residents who have relocated to update their details. People who have lost or damaged their voter cards can also request replacements.

Omisore stressed that voting is the only way to remove bad leaders and elect those who will perform well. “Without a voter card, you can’t participate in politics or decide who represents you,” he noted.

The Vice Chairman, however, warned against double registration, as it could lead to disqualification. He urged political parties to discourage multiple registrations and asked INEC to ensure the exercise runs smoothly. The council, he added, will provide necessary support and monitor the registration centres to make the process seamless.

According to NAN, the online CVR exercise began on August 18 and will continue until December 10, while physical registration at designated centres started on August 25.
