A 37-year-old man, Bamidele Ayobami, has been arraigned before the Chief Magistrates’ Court in Ado-Ekiti for allegedly stealing goats in the state capital.
The Prosecutor, Inspector Akinwale Oriyomi, told the court that on August 8, 2025, at about 6 a.m., the defendant, alongside others who are still at large, conspired to steal goats within Ado-Ekiti. He explained that the offence contravenes Section 421 of the Criminal Law of Ekiti State, 2021, which prescribes punishment for conspiracy and theft-related offences.
When the charge was read, Ayobami pleaded not guilty. His counsel, Barrister Oluwafemi Alabi, appealed to the court to admit his client to bail on liberal terms, assuring that the accused would not evade trial if granted bail.
Ruling on the application, the Chief Magistrate, Mr. Abayomi Adeosun, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N50,000 with one surety in like sum. The surety, according to the court, must provide a verifiable address.
The case has been adjourned until October 7, 2025, for hearing.
The matter has generated some interest among locals, as goat theft has become a recurring issue in rural communities across Ekiti, with residents often complaining about the rising cases of livestock theft affecting their livelihoods.
