The face of Abubakar Abba, better known by his dreaded alias Mamuda, has finally been revealed following his capture by operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS).
Niger State Governor, Mohammed Umaru Bago, confirmed the arrest in a statement on Wednesday, August 13, 2025. He disclosed that Mamuda was taken into custody in Wawa, Borgu Local Government Area, after weeks of intense surveillance.
Feared across parts of Kwara and Niger States — especially the Kainji axis — Mamuda has long been accused of masterminding a string of deadly attacks, mass kidnappings, and cold-blooded killings. His reign of terror has left countless communities in fear.
Security analyst and counterinsurgency expert, Zagazola Makama, revealed that Mamuda was once a member of the Abubakar Shekau-led Boko Haram faction before shifting his operations to the North West. There, he built a reputation as one of the region’s most ruthless bandit leaders.
Security sources say the arrest was the result of a sustained, intelligence-led campaign aimed at bringing down high-profile criminal networks operating in the region.
Mamuda remains in DSS custody as investigations continue into his criminal network and the full scale of his operations.
