Business mogul and Lagos governorship hopeful of Badagry extraction, Mr. Samuel Mawuyon Ajose (SMA), has declared that his push for a Badagry indigene to emerge as Governor of Lagos State in 2027 is not born out of personal ambition but a collective struggle to correct what he described as decades of marginalization and infrastructural neglect of the ancient division.
Speaking at his country home in Sowhe, Badagry, during a private interaction with a section of media professionals, Ajose lamented that since the creation of Lagos State in 1967, Badagry remains the only division under the IBILE structure yet to produce a governor. According to him, Ikeja, Ikorodu, Epe, and Lagos Island have all had their fair share of the governorship seat, leaving Badagry sidelined despite its historical significance to Lagos and Nigeria.
Ajose argued that the absence of a Badagry indigene in such a strategic leadership position has contributed largely to the infrastructural deficit and economic stagnation in the region.
“If an indigene of Badagry had been governor at any point, we would not be dealing with the kind of infrastructural decay that has slowed our economic growth for decades. The neglect is simply because we have never been allowed to lead from the top,” he stated.
The business magnate dismissed claims in some quarters that Badagry lacks competent and financially capable individuals to govern Lagos. He described such views as insulting and a deliberate attempt to downplay the capacity of Badagry sons and daughters, many of whom, he said, are excelling both nationally and internationally.
“Recently, someone mocked our agitation, claiming Badagry has neither the human resources nor the financial muscle to produce a governor. I was embarrassed. How could anyone say such a thing? We have numerous men and women of substance from Badagry who can stand shoulder-to-shoulder with anyone in Lagos. I am just one of them. It is erroneous and insulting to suggest otherwise,” Ajose said.
While stressing that his agitation is not strictly about him, Ajose noted that he is “eminently qualified” and prepared to contest if given the opportunity. However, he emphasized that the struggle should be seen as a collective cause of the entire Badagry, not the ambition of one individual.
“This is not about SMA. It is about Badagry. By 2027, our story must change. We are not second-class citizens in Lagos. Nobody is more Lagosian than Badagry. We have paid our dues historically, economically, and culturally. What we ask for is fairness,” he added.
Ajose appealed to the leadership of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to consider zoning the 2027 governorship ticket to Badagry, noting that whoever emerges from the division should not matter, as long as the region finally takes its rightful place.
He further called for unity among Badagry sons and daughters, both at home and in the diaspora, urging them to rally behind the agitation with one voice.
“If we are united, nothing can stop us. This agitation must be a collective responsibility. It is time to end the neglect of Badagry,” he charged.
With his bold stance, SMA has once again brought the 2027 Badagry governorship agitation to the front burner of Lagos politics, sparking conversations on equity, fairness, and the long-overdue recognition of Badagry in the political leadership of the state.

The event, aimed at energizing party loyalists ahead of the July 13 local government elections, was where Ajose also declared his full support—morally, financially, and logistically—for the All Progressives Congress.
