The project, designed to ease transportation challenges for schoolchildren, was officially launched on Monday, May 5, drawing applause from stakeholders, parents, and education advocates across the constituency. The initiative is part of Hon. Whingan’s broader commitment to removing barriers to education and improving the daily lives of students in the region.
During the launch event, which also featured the groundbreaking of new school infrastructure and the distribution of learning materials to over 2,000 pupils across Badagry Local Government, Olorunda LCDA, and Badagry West LCDA, Hon. Whingan emphasized the urgent need for practical solutions to everyday obstacles in education. “The Free School Ride is a practical response to the transportation challenges many students face daily in their pursuit of learning,” he said.
The service will begin with two core routes: Morogbo Bus Stop to Topo Garage in Badagry Town and the return route from Topo Garage back to Morogbo. Operations will run three days a week—Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays—with morning trips scheduled between 6:00 AM and 8:00 AM, and afternoon return trips between 1:00 PM and 3:00 PM. Additional routes are already being considered and may be introduced in the near future.
Importantly, the Free School Ride is open to all pupils and students, regardless of whether they attend public or private schools, as long as they fall within the designated coverage areas. The initiative aims to relieve parents of the financial burden of daily transport while ensuring safer, more punctual commutes for learners.
Hon. Sesi Whingan, who also serves as Deputy Chairman of the House Committee on Petroleum Resources (Upstream), reaffirmed his vision of a fully inclusive and accessible education system for Badagry. His efforts continue to resonate locally and nationally as he pushes for sustainable, student-focused policies that put young Nigerians first.
As the first buses prepare to roll out on Monday, hopes are high that this initiative will become a model for other constituencies looking to support education through real, impactful action.
