2025/2026 Admission: LASU Announces Dates for Indigeneship Verification – What You Need to Know

As part of preparations for the 2025/2026 academic session, the Lagos State University (LASU) has officially announced the commencement of its Indigeneship Verification Exercise (IIVE) for candidates of Lagos State origin who selected LASU as their first choice in the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).

The verification registration will begin on Monday, May 26, 2025, and close on Thursday, June 19, 2025, and will be conducted in four phases:

  • Phase 1: May 26 – May 29

  • Phase 2: June 2 – June 5

  • Phase 3: June 9 – June 12

  • Phase 4: June 16 – June 19

Eligibility Criteria
To participate, candidates must have chosen LASU as their first choice institution and scored a minimum of 195 in the 2025 UTME. Only candidates who meet these requirements and complete the verification successfully will be considered for admission under the Lagos State quota.

Verification Venues by Division:

  • Ikeja Division: Sociology Class, Opposite University Health Centre

  • Badagry Division: New TETFund Building, Faculty of Education

  • Ikorodu Division: Law Clinic, Faculty of Law

  • Lagos Division: International Business Class, MBA Building

  • Epe Division: School of Transport and Logistics

Candidates are expected to register online, fill a brief form, and present themselves for an in-person interview at the designated centre for their local government of origin.

Required Documents for IIVE Interview:

  1. Letter of recognition from your local government

  2. Letter from the Oba (traditional ruler)

  3. Landed property documents over 50 years old (from parents)

  4. Father’s birth certificate

  5. Applicant’s birth certificate

  6. Original JAMB result

  7. Proof of payment for IIVE registration (₦10,000)

  8. IIVE online registration printout

Key Local Government Areas Recognized Under IIVE:
LASU’s IIVE strictly covers Lagos’ five traditional divisions, represented by the acronym IBILE:

  • I – Ikorodu

  • B – Badagry

  • I – Ikeja

  • L – Lagos Island

  • E – Epe

For instance, candidates from areas like Ibeju-Lekki will fall under the Epe Division.

What to Expect During the Interview:
During the interview, candidates will be tested on their knowledge of their local origin, culture, and environment. Some of the likely questions include:

  • Who is the traditional ruler (Oba) of your town?

  • What is your family compound (Agbole) known for?

  • Can you name prominent indigenes from your area?

  • What are the surrounding towns to your village?

  • What is your town’s oríkì (praise poetry)?

  • Where is your local government office located and who is the current chairman?

  • How do you get to your village from your home?

Successful candidates will receive an official LASU Indigeneship Card, which is a vital document for the final admission screening. Those who are unsuccessful may reapply or consider changing their state of origin or institution.

Why Being a Verified Lagos Indigene Matters
Beyond the admission edge, verified Lagos indigenes at LASU enjoy several benefits, including:

  • Access to Lagos State bursaries

  • Scholarships for students with CGPA above 4.0

  • Eshilokun Scholarship for Ojo indigenes

  • Opportunities to become IBILE Youth Ambassadors

  • Engagements and mentorship sessions with prominent Lagosians in Ikeja

It’s important to note that non-Lagosians are not eligible for the IIVE and should not attempt to participate.

For further updates, candidates are advised to regularly check LASU’s official portal and stay informed to avoid missing any critical deadlines.
