The Executive Chairman of Olorunda Local Council Development Area, Hon. Ajose Peter Kumayon, is aware of the challenges confronting Ojogun and other riverine communities and has already commenced practical interventions to address them, the council said in a statement on Monday.
The assurance was contained in a press release issued by the Media Unit of the Office of the Executive Chairman following a video circulated by CityMood Badagry highlighting concerns over teacher availability, transportation and other basic needs at Ojogun Primary School.
According to the statement, the challenges are not new to the Ajose administration, as the chairman has maintained direct engagement with the riverine communities since assuming office and recently embarked on an unscheduled visit to Ojogun, Oko Ogbo, Moba, Ikotun Ase and Dadi Louis.
During the visit, Ajose personally inspected schools, primary healthcare centres, community halls and other public facilities, while also monitoring the installation of 150 solar powered street lights across the five communities.
The statement identified transportation, particularly for teachers, students and health workers, as one of the major challenges confronting the riverine communities.
It said ActionAid, following an appeal by the chairman, donated two engine boats, which were recently commissioned by Ajose. The chairman has also directed the purchase of two additional boats to complement the donated ones and improve transportation across the communities.
To ensure sustained attention to the riverine areas, the council said Ajose had constituted a special committee on riverine communities, with himself as chairman. The committee is expected to coordinate interventions and engage relevant government agencies and stakeholders on education, healthcare, infrastructure and other pressing needs.
Meanwhile, the school authority has confirmed that additional teachers resumed at Ojogun Primary School on Monday, September 14, addressing the teacher shortage highlighted in the circulating video.
The council also appreciated CityMood Badagry for drawing attention to the concerns of the community, assuring residents that their welfare remains a priority of the Ajose administration.
The statement reaffirmed the chairman's commitment to ensuring that no community in Olorunda LCDA is left behind.
