All roads will lead to Gbaji in Badagry West on Wednesday as the Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, visits the area to commission a landmark re-electrification project designed to restore and strengthen power supply across several coastal communities.
The commissioning will be hosted by the Executive Chairman of Badagry West Local Council Development Area, Rauf Ibrahim Kayode Yemaren, who will receive the governor alongside other top government officials for the historic event.
The electrification project, executed by the Lagos State Government through the Lagos State Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources in partnership with the Lagos State Electrification Agency, includes the construction of three electrical distribution towers crossing the Gbaji Lagoon. It also involves the rehabilitation of critical power infrastructure along the Gbaji–Seme and Owode–Apa communities within Badagry West.
Spanning about 37.7 kilometres of power distribution network, the project features the installation of 51 distribution transformer substations. The initiative is expected to drastically improve electricity supply in the affected communities and unlock new economic opportunities for residents, traders and small businesses operating in the area.
The Badagry re-electrification project was facilitated by Hon. Solomon Bonu Saanu, member of the Lagos State House of Assembly and Chairman of the House Committee on Tourism, Arts and Culture. His role in facilitating the intervention has drawn commendation from community leaders, youths and residents who believe the development will transform the energy landscape of the council area.
Speaking ahead of the governor’s visit, Chairman Yemaren described the commissioning as a historic moment for the people of Badagry West. According to him, the project represents a major step toward solving the long-standing electricity challenges faced by many coastal communities in the axis.
He noted that the improved power supply would not only enhance the quality of life for residents but also boost local commerce and encourage further development across the council.
The ceremony is expected to attract government officials, traditional rulers, political leaders, community stakeholders and residents from across Badagry who will gather to witness the commissioning of what many have described as a transformative project for the region.
