The visit, which came as a surprise to many residents in the area, was quiet and without ceremony. Ogunlende arrived at the site earlier in the day and immediately went into discussions with engineers and project supervisors. Rather than a routine courtesy stop, the engagement was detailed and deliberate, with the Commissioner seeking updates on construction timelines, infrastructure standards and overall readiness of the facility.
Sources within the Ministry disclosed that the inspection forms part of an accelerated plan to ensure that all infrastructure required for the 2026 IBILE Youth Academy meets expected standards and is delivered on schedule. This is particularly significant as physical screening for the academy is concluding today across the five divisions of the state, with Badagry playing a strategic role in the programme.
For the youths of Badagry and the wider IBILE corridor, the project represents more than just another government building. The proposed Youth Empowerment Hub is designed as a practical space for skills acquisition, digital training and leadership development. It is expected to serve as a launchpad for young people seeking opportunities in technology, entrepreneurship and public service.
Observers at the site noted that Ogunlende paid close attention to the quality of work being done. He asked pointed questions, examined facilities and emphasized the need for speed without compromising standards. Those present described the atmosphere as one of urgency and purpose, reflecting the Commissioner’s hands on approach to youth development.
Before leaving the site, Ogunlende briefly interacted with some young people in the area, reminding them that the future of Lagos depends heavily on their energy, creativity and readiness to seize opportunities. His message resonated strongly, especially coming from a Commissioner who hails from Badagry and understands the aspirations and challenges of the community.
Many residents and stakeholders see the visit as a positive sign that the promises embedded in the Prosperity Budget are beginning to take shape on the ground. For a region that has often felt left out of major development conversations, the Commissioner’s presence has renewed hope that Badagry will receive its fair share of attention and investment.
As work continues on the IBILE Youth Academy site, eyes will remain on the project to ensure that it delivers on its promise. If completed as planned, the facility could mark a turning point for unemployed graduates and aspiring young professionals across Badagry and neighbouring communities.
Badagry Today will continue to monitor developments at the site and bring readers timely updates as the project progresses.
