The Akran of Badagry, Aholu Menu Toyi I, has urged residents, traditional institutions and political office holders across Badagry to make unity peace and shared development their top priority in 2026.
In his New Year message signed by Chief Afolabi Hunkanlin, Secretary to the Akran in Council, the revered monarch appealed to all ethnic nationalities in Badagry including Awori, Egun, Weme, Wheda, Seton, Whlanu, Alada, Ga and Devi to deepen cooperation for the growth and security of the border community.
Calling for stronger bonds among the people, the Akran stressed that progress can only be achieved through collective effort and mutual understanding. He urged the Awori and Egun to work hand in hand, Weme and Alada to build partnerships, Whlanu and Ga to strengthen ties, while Wheda and Seton unite with the Devi, reminding all that being one another’s keeper remains the foundation of lasting peace.
The royal father also charged political leaders, local government chairmen and state legislators representing Badagry to place the welfare of the people above all other interests. According to him leadership must always be guided by the genuine needs and aspirations of the people.
While noting the prevailing peace and harmony enjoyed in Badagry, the monarch warned that such stability must not be taken for granted. He called for sustained vigilance and cooperation to preserve the calm that has become the pride of the ancient town.
He further commended security agencies operating in Badagry including the Nigerian Army, Navy, Air Force, Civil Defence, FRSC, DSS and Customs for their commitment and sacrifices in safeguarding lives and property describing their efforts as central to the community’s peace.
The Akran concluded by encouraging residents to renew their commitment to building a stronger and more prosperous Badagry expressing hope that the new year will usher in joy peace and prosperity for the people and the land.
