Badagry has continued to record remarkable strides as one of its illustrious sons, Dr Saheed Adebowale Nugboyan Ogunme, has been appointed by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as the new Medical Director of the Federal Medical Centre, Ebute Metta, Lagos.
Joining the chorus of goodwill messages, the member representing Badagry Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon Sesi Oluwaseun Whingan, has congratulated Dr Ogunme on what he described as a well-earned and inspiring elevation. Whingan shared his message through his official Facebook page, praising the new Medical Director for his outstanding journey and commitment to service.
Whingan wrote that the appointment is “a truly well-deserved achievement” and expressed confidence that Dr Ogunme’s leadership will bring meaningful progress to FMC Ebute Metta and to Nigerians who rely on its services. He noted that the appointment is even more special because Dr Ogunme is a proud indigene of Badagry, adding that he was pleased to have supported the process in his capacity as a federal lawmaker.
The lawmaker, who also serves as the Deputy Chairman of the House Committee on Petroleum Resources (Upstream), extended his best wishes for a successful and fulfilling tenure, emphasising that Dr Ogunme’s rise reflects the strength, competence and potential within the Badagry community.
Dr Ogunme’s appointment, which takes effect from Monday, November 10, 2025, was earlier announced in a statement signed by Mr Stephen Isibor, Director of Information and Head of Corporate Services at FMC Ebute Metta. He becomes the fourth substantive Medical Director of the federal health institution.
A seasoned consultant obstetrician and gynaecologist, Dr Ogunme has built a formidable career marked by excellence, leadership and decades of dedicated service. He graduated from the University of Benin in 1995 and earned the Fellowship of the West African College of Surgeons in 2010. He joined FMC Ebute Metta that same year and has since risen steadily through the ranks.
He became Consultant Special Grade I in 2020, served as Head of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology from 2020 to 2022 and was later appointed Head of Clinical Services in November 2022. By June 2025, he was already serving as Acting Medical Director, a role that showcased his administrative strength and readiness for greater responsibility.
Dr Ogunme has also undergone several top-level management and leadership trainings, including the Health Management Programme at Pan Atlantic University and the Mandatory Training for Chief Executives of Agencies and Parastatals at the Administrative Staff College of Nigeria.
For the people of Badagry, this appointment is more than a personal triumph for Dr Ogunme — it is a collective moment of pride. His journey stands as a testament to commitment, capacity and the excellence that defines Badagry’s brightest minds.
Badagry Today joins the rest of the community in celebrating this milestone and wishing Dr Saheed Adebowale Nugboyan Ogunme a successful tenure at the helm of FMC Ebute Metta.
