Badagry has earned another proud moment as President Bola Ahmed Tinubu approves the appointment of Dr Saheed Adebowale Nugboyan Ogunme as the fourth substantive Medical Director of the Federal Medical Centre, Ebute Metta, Lagos. His appointment takes effect from Monday, November 10, 2025.
His appointment was announced in a press release signed by Mr. Stephen Isibor, Director of Information and Head of Corporate Services, on behalf of the management of the Federal Medical Centre, Ebute Metta.
Dr Ogunme, a respected consultant obstetrician and gynaecologist, hails from Badagry and has built an impressive medical career grounded in decades of service, leadership and professional distinction. He graduated from the University of Benin in 1995 with a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery degree, laying the foundation for a journey that has touched countless lives.
After earning the Fellowship of the West African College of Surgeons in 2010, Dr Ogunme joined the Federal Medical Centre, Ebute Metta, as a consultant the same year. Through dedication and exceptional performance, he rose to the position of Consultant Special Grade I in 2020.
Within the institution, he has held key leadership positions. He served as Head of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology between 2020 and 2022 and later became the Head of Clinical Services from November 2022. In June 2025, he stepped into the role of Acting Medical Director, a position that further showcased his administrative competence and readiness for higher responsibility.
Dr Ogunme’s professional development spans several high-level training programmes, including the Health Management Programme of the Pan Atlantic University and the Mandatory Training Programme for Chief Executive Officers of Agencies and Parastatals organised by the Administrative Staff College of Nigeria.
His appointment is widely seen as a well-deserved elevation for a man who has dedicated his life to advancing healthcare delivery. It is also a moment of pride for the people of Badagry, as one of their own takes the helm of a major federal health institution in Lagos.
