Mrs Arinola Ajose, widow of the late Badagry All Progressives Congress apex leader, Dr Sunny Ajose, has praised the Chairman of Badagry Local Government, Mr Babatunde Hunpe, for taking steps to immortalise her husband’s legacy.
In a statement issued by Prince Sunday Oke, private secretary and media aide to the late political leader, Mrs Ajose expressed deep appreciation for the gesture, describing it as a worthy honour for a man who gave so much to the development of Badagry.
Hon Babatunde Hunpe had recently renamed the historic Mission Street after the late statesman, now called Sunny Ajose Avenue. Although the decision initially sparked mixed reactions on social media, with some applauding the move and others, including Badagry-born academic Dr Seun Williams, raising concerns from a historical and tourism perspective, the family says the honour remains deeply valued.
“It is with great pleasure that we acknowledge the street named after him, Sunny Ajose Avenue, previously known as Mission Avenue,” the statement said.
“The late Ajose was a remarkable man who played a pivotal role in shaping the Badagry federation into the city it has become. His commitment to service and his desire to stay connected to leadership were evident throughout his career.”
The family also recalled that earlier in the year, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu honoured the late leader by naming the Badagry Housing Estate after him, now known as Sunny Ajose Estate.
“We are grateful for this great honour and express our sincere appreciation to everyone who made it possible,” the statement added.
