The Oke Aro community in Badagry came alive in colour and celebration as residents leaders and stakeholders gathered for the grand finale of the Oke Aro Day celebration a vibrant event that underscored unity service and grassroots development.
Addressing the gathering Hon Sesi Oluwaseun Whingan Member of the House of Representatives for Badagry Federal Constituency urged residents and leaders of the Oke Aro Community Development Association to deepen synergy unity and collective responsibility in driving sustainable growth. Hon Whingan who is also a landlord in the community and a major supporter of the annual celebration stressed that meaningful development thrives when people work together with a shared vision. He noted that cooperation remains the strongest pathway to attracting progress and government attention to the community.
Chairman of the Oke Aro CDA Prof Oki in his remarks explained that the Oke Aro Day programme was carefully structured to deliver real impact. He said activities began with an Environmental Sanitation exercise followed by a Free Medical Check Up for residents before culminating in the colourful grand finale. Describing the three day programme as people focused Prof Oki said it was designed to promote a cleaner environment improved access to healthcare and stronger community bonding. He thanked residents partners and sponsors for their support and called for sustained collaboration to advance infrastructural and social development in Oke Aro.
Also speaking Hon Wale Adesina a resident and landlord in the community and one of the Special Guests of the Day encouraged residents to continue supporting community leadership and development initiatives. He emphasized that grassroots development can only be achieved through active participation and collective ownership by the people.
The event also featured recognition of individuals who have rendered selfless service to the community. Dr Ayeola a Director at the Administrative Staff College of Nigeria ASCON and an active CDA member was commended for his contributions particularly his support for the grading of an inner road in Oke Aro and other welfare driven interventions.
On security the Divisional Police Officer of Badagry CSP Agosile represented at the event reminded residents that security is a shared responsibility stressing that the police cannot do it alone without the cooperation of the community. He also warned against the use and blowing of bangers during the festive period urging residents to remain law abiding and vigilant.
Earlier a pioneer landlord Alhaji Olagunro took residents down memory lane recounting the early days of Oke Aro when prisoners were engaged to clear roads and open up the community. He noted that the area has since recorded remarkable transformation compared to its humble beginnings.
In recognition of outstanding contributions Prince Preye Esimein was honoured with a Merit Award for his consistent support and selfless service to the growth of Oke Aro. Gifts were also presented to outstanding landlords who have remained committed to the development of the community.
Residents described the Oke Aro Day grand finale as a true celebration of progress unity and hope reaffirming the community’s resolve to pursue sustained development through partnership participation and shared responsibility.
