One of the KAI officers attacked by thugs during an enforcement operation in a Lagos restaurant has been identified as Mr Victor Akilapa, a native of Mowo in Olorunda Local Council Development Area, Badagry.
The Lagos State Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, disclosed the development in a statement on X. He explained that officers from the Lagos State Wastewater Management Office and the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps were carrying out a joint operation on December 10, 2025, to curb the indiscriminate discharge of untreated wastewater, fats, and oil into the environment when the incident occurred.
According to Wahab, hoodlums linked to Yakoyo Abula Restaurant on Sinari Daranijo Street, Victoria Island, launched an attack on the officials, leaving four KAI officers injured. He said the restaurant had earlier broken a government seal placed on the premises and went further to unleash armed thugs on officers who were performing their lawful duties, a move he described as completely unacceptable.
The commissioner stressed that the state government will not tolerate any form of assault, obstruction, or intimidation of officers on duty. He warned that any business or individual involved in such acts will face swift consequences, including sealing of premises and prosecution of offenders.
He added that the restaurant’s supervisor has been arrested, the facility sealed indefinitely, and efforts are underway to apprehend others involved in the attack.
