A popular Badagry social media critic, Prince Babajide Senayon Akran, widely known as BSA, has written an open letter to the Chairman of Badagry Local Government, Hon Babatunde Hunpe, calling for deeper grassroots empowerment and a renewed focus on youth development.
In the letter, which has been widely circulated online, BSA praised the chairman for what he described as a loud, energetic and impactful first 100 days in office. He commended the graded roads across communities, the revived health centres, the improved lighting in dark areas and the administration’s inclusive approach that has earned public admiration. According to him, residents can clearly feel the renewed energy in governance and are proud of the chairman’s early achievements.
However, while acknowledging the progress so far, BSA urged the chairman to consider two strategic initiatives he believes would significantly amplify the administration’s impact across all wards.
The first is the creation of what he called a “Ward Empowerment Vault,” a quarterly funding window that would enable councillors to execute quick-impact projects within their wards. BSA suggested a funding range of ten to fifty million naira per councillor per quarter, strictly monitored with receipts and photographic evidence. He argued that such a structure would boost councillors’ ability to directly address pressing community needs such as faulty transformers, dilapidated school furniture, broken boreholes and blocked drainages. According to him, the initiative would make service delivery more consistent across all wards while strengthening the bond between the chairman, councillors and residents.
His second appeal was the construction of a modern mini stadium for Badagry youths. BSA noted that while hopes remain high for a larger state-owned stadium in the future, the local government has the capacity to immediately build a functional sports arena equipped with a standard pitch, seating for about 2,000 to 3,000 people, floodlights and changing rooms. He argued that such a facility would help develop local football talents, reduce youth restlessness, attract weekend activities to the town and eventually draw private and corporate investors once they see the project take off.
BSA concluded his letter by reaffirming his admiration for the chairman’s leadership qualities, emphasising that the proposed initiatives would further cement Hunpe’s legacy as a visionary leader dedicated to the progress of Badagry. He assured the chairman of the people’s continued support while encouraging him to remain bold and focused in his mission.
The open letter has sparked conversations among residents, many of whom describe the suggestions as timely and aligned with the community’s aspirations.
