A personnel of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has been accused of shooting and injuring a woman during an early morning operation in the Gbogbele community of Badagry West LCDA, Lagos State, sparking outrage and calls for an official investigation.
The incident, which reportedly occurred on the morning of Friday, November 7, 2025, has left residents of the quiet riverine community in fear and confusion, report by News Peddler says
Eyewitnesses, according News Peddler said the situation began when a team of immigration officers, who arrived in two Toyota Hilux vans, stationed themselves near a local bridge in the area. Their presence reportedly drew the attention of some residents, one of whom approached the officers, questioning their mission and insisting that the local council chairman be informed before any operation was carried out.
That simple exchange, witnesses said, appeared to have angered the officers. One of them allegedly recognized the resident as an “honourable” with whom they’d had a prior disagreement. Things escalated when the team leader ordered the man’s arrest, prompting him to flee in fear. The officers pursued him, with one reportedly brandishing a cane.
Moments later, a gunshot rang out. The bullet missed its intended target and instead pierced through the wall of a nearby house, striking a woman who was lying in her room.
A community source who spoke to News Peddlers described the aftermath as chaotic. “The woman was just resting in her room when the bullet hit her. The officers had come from Ropoji to Igbogbele not long before this happened,” the source said.
The victim, who sustained an injury to her arm, was rushed to a nearby facility for treatment. Her current condition remains unclear.
Efforts to get comments from the Public Relations Officer of the Nigeria Immigration Service at the Seme Border Command proved unsuccessful as of the time of filing this report. Neither the NIS nor the local police have released an official statement on the incident, the victim’s condition, or whether any of the officers involved have been detained.
The silence from the authorities has only deepened public anxiety and anger within the Gbogbele community and across the Badagry West area. Local leaders and human rights advocates are now demanding a full and transparent investigation into the matter.
They are calling on the Nigeria Immigration Service to hold the officers accountable and to review its operational conduct in civilian communities. For many residents, this incident is a troubling reminder of the growing tension between security agencies and the people they are meant to protect.
Would you like me to add a short follow-up paragraph connecting it to the mysterious fire at the Immigration checkpoint office that occurred shortly after? It could make the story more gripping and news-complete.
