The Lagos State Police Command has announced major security deployments across schools, worship centres and other public spaces as part of renewed efforts to keep residents safe amid rising concerns over criminal activities in parts of the country.
Commissioner of Police Olohundare Jimoh made the announcement on Monday while briefing journalists at the command headquarters in Ikeja. He reassured Lagosians that the state remains safe, adding that the intensified security operations will continue throughout the ember months and into the New Year.
Jimoh said the command has deployed more personnel to places frequently visited by the public, including churches, mosques, schools and recreation centres. According to him, the goal is to ensure that residents carry on with their daily activities without fear.
He explained that the decision became necessary following incidents of insecurity recorded recently in states such as Kwara, Kebbi and Niger. He also revealed that newly recruited drivers and car wash attendants were behind several stolen vehicles reported in Lagos.
During the briefing, the CP paraded ten exotic vehicles recovered by the police and announced the arrest of fifty six suspects linked to various offences across the state. The recovered vehicles include a white Toyota Hilux, a Range Rover SUV, a Land Cruiser, a Lexus GX460, a Honda CR V, two Toyota Corollas and a Boxer Bajaj motorcycle used in a robbery attempt.
Weapons recovered from the suspects were also displayed, including locally made pistols, a cut to size shotgun, cartridges and a machete. Jimoh said these breakthroughs were the result of intensified operations across all local council areas.
The police chief urged residents to be more vigilant and avoid leaving their car keys with unfamiliar or newly engaged workers, especially at car wash centres. He emphasised that many vehicle thefts were carried out by trusted hands who had only just been employed.
Jimoh assured Lagosians that the command will sustain its crime fighting efforts into the New Year, stressing that the safety of residents remains the top priority.
