The Nigeria Immigration Service in Seme has tendered an apology to the Badagry West Local Council Development Area following the shooting incident that left residents in Igbogbele community shaken. This was disclosed in a statement released by the Chief Press Secretary to the Council Chairman, Rauf Ibrahim Kayode Yemaren.
According to the statement, the apology was delivered during a visit to the Council Secretariat on Tuesday. The delegation was led by Comptroller Adache Peter Adoyi of the Lagos Border Patrol Command, who stood in for the Seme Comptroller.
During the meeting, Friday Godonu, who was said to be the person the officers were after, recounted how he narrowly escaped being shot after helping to identify community members returning from a meeting. He explained that the officers later traced him to his home, assaulted him, and fired shots, one of which hit Mrs Hunsa. She is currently receiving treatment at the General Hospital.
The Council’s Legal Adviser also voiced other concerns, including a claim that Immigration officers had earlier refused to acknowledge an official letter sent by the council about the incident.
Comptroller Adoyi expressed regret on behalf of the Service and confirmed that internal disciplinary actions were already underway. He also noted that the NIS team had visited Mrs Hunsa at the hospital with plans to offer some support items but were advised to first brief the Council Chairman.
