Badagry’s Executive Chairman, Hon Babatunde Hunpe, on Saturday commissioned newly reconstructed classroom and office blocks at L.A. Primary School, Yafin, declaring the project a firm statement of his administration’s commitment to rebuilding public institutions and restoring dignity to grassroots education.
The event, which drew community leaders, government officials, education managers, and residents, marked one of the highlights of Hunpe’s ongoing 100-day agenda focused on infrastructure renewal and social development across Badagry Local Government.
Speaking at the ceremony, Hunpe said the project symbolises the direction of his administration and its belief that “any society that fails to build its children has already failed to build its future.”
According to him, Yafin’s primary school was in dire need of intervention when he assumed office. Classrooms were deteriorating, office spaces were overstretched, and the environment no longer encouraged quality learning.
“Today, all of that has changed,” he said. “These reconstructed blocks were built deliberately to give our pupils a safe, modern and inspiring learning environment, and to provide our teachers with a workspace that truly reflects the value we place on their service.”
Hunpe noted that the school project aligns with a broader vision that has shaped his early days in office, adding that his team has been working across multiple sectors from road rehabilitation and health support to tourism revival, youth empowerment and social welfare.
He praised the cooperation of the Aholu and elders of Yafin, the Lagos SUBEB Chairman, the Education Secretary of Badagry LGEA, school administrators and the contractor, describing their roles as essential to the success of the project.
Hunpe also used the event to appreciate teachers for their resilience and parents for their trust, while urging pupils to make the most of the new facilities.
“This school has been rebuilt for you. Work hard, stay focused and make Badagry proud,” he told the children.
The Chairman assured residents that the transformation witnessed in Yafin is only a glimpse of what his administration plans for the entire local government.
“We will continue to invest in education, infrastructure, welfare, health and economic development. Our goal is simple — a Badagry where progress is felt in every community,” he said.
The commissioning ended with community cheers as pupils and teachers took a first tour of the newly upgraded structures.
