Hunpe Marks 100 Days In Office, Unveils Major Projects, ₦400m Empowerment Plan, Others For Badagry

Badagry Local Government Chairman, Hon Babatunde Hunpe, on Saturday rolled out a detailed scorecard of his first 100 days in office, announcing sweeping reforms, new infrastructure projects, expanded social welfare programmes, and a 400 million naira empowerment scheme targeted at thousands of households.

Speaking during a press briefing at the Council Chamber in Ajara, Hunpe said the milestone was not just a moment for celebration but an opportunity to show accountability, reflect on progress, and renew his commitment to the people who entrusted him with leadership.

He described the first few months of his administration as the beginning of “a greater Badagry rising,” noting that the agenda aligns closely with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s renewed hope vision. According to him, his government stepped into office with a clear promise: to build a local government that works for everyone, prioritizes development, and embraces creativity in solving long standing challenges.

Three Roads Under Construction, 40 More in Sight

On infrastructure, Hunpe reported that the administration has started work on three major community link roads expected to boost transportation, commerce, and safety. He assured residents that if this pace is sustained, Badagry would see at least 40 completed roads by the end of his first term.

“Our commitment is simple. We want road development to be a signature of this administration,” he said.

A Rebuilt School and a Renewed Focus on Education

Education also featured strongly in the chairman’s scorecard. He announced the completion of a full reconstruction of a primary school, including three new classroom blocks, offices, improved toilet facilities, and modern learning tools.

“We are not only putting up structures. We are investing in the minds that will shape the future of this community,” he said.

400 Million Naira Empowerment Scheme and New Revenue Drive

Hunpe disclosed that the government has revamped its internal revenue system by engaging experts, introducing digital options, and broadening income sources without overburdening residents. He revealed that, as part of the 100 days celebration, the council will launch a 400 million naira empowerment scheme known as the Asiwaju Conditional Cash Transfer.

The programme will support four thousand families with 100,000 naira each over the next 20 months. In addition, the council will establish POS businesses for one hundred residents to strengthen economic independence among youths and women.

Tourism Reawakening and Cultural Promotion

The chairman reaffirmed his commitment to restoring Badagry’s tourism glory. He highlighted the inauguration of the Local Government Tourism Committee and the successful hosting of this year’s Door of Return Festival, in partnership with Olorunda LCDA, Badagry West LCDA, NIDCOM, AREFO, and ADORE.

“Badagry must reclaim its rightful place as Nigeria’s foremost historical tourism destination,” he said.

Healthcare Overhaul and Expanded Social Welfare

On health, Hunpe announced significant upgrades across primary healthcare centres, especially the complete remodelling of the Pota PHC, which he described as an example of how government should respond to community concerns.

He said the administration has carried out medical outreach in underserved areas, empowered widows, supported vulnerable households, and set the pace for upgrading all PHCs before the end of the current term. He also noted that the council made history by sponsoring thirty five women to the annual COWLSO conference.

Support for Traditional Rulers and Governance Reforms

Hunpe emphasized his respect for traditional institutions, noting that his administration reviewed the imprest of the Aholus upward and ensured timely support for their activities.

He also touched on security collaboration, sanitation improvements, and governance reforms aimed at transparency and efficiency. With five new waste mobile carriers now available, he said the council is set to launch the Badagry Local Government Anti Refuse Brigade.

A Promise to Stay Focused

Closing his address, Hunpe assured residents that he remains focused and determined to push forward despite challenges.

“We will not slow down. We will not be distracted. We will not break the trust you have placed in us. Together, we will continue to move Badagry forward,” he said.

He ended with prayers for Badagry, Lagos State, and the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

Hunpe’s first 100 days, marked by bold promises and visible projects, sets the tone for what many residents hope will be a transformative tenure for Badagry Local Government.
