The dream of quality basic education is becoming a reality for residents of Javie Community in Badagry, Lagos State, as Hon. Sesi Oluwaseun Whingan, Member of the House of Representatives for Badagry Federal Constituency, has facilitated the construction of a modern solar-powered school building in the area.
According to the press release from the office of the MHR, the ongoing project, funded by the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC), includes a block of classrooms, a store, and a teachers’ office at Javie Community Primary School. The initiative is part of Hon. Whingan’s sustained efforts to expand access to education in underserved communities and uplift rural development in Badagry.
For years, the people of Javie, one of Badagry’s oldest communities, have longed for a government-owned school. In the absence of one, residents took it upon themselves to build makeshift structures so their children could learn, often under harsh conditions. Many pupils also endured the daily struggle of trekking several kilometers to neighboring towns like Ikoga and Iragbo-Iragon just to attend school.
Moved by their determination, Hon. Whingan championed the UBEC intervention to support the community’s grassroots effort and ensure children in Javie can learn in a safe, conducive, and well-equipped environment.
According to his office, the new solar-powered school complex will not only bridge the gap in educational access but also strengthen inclusive learning in line with the development goals of both the Lagos State Government and the Federal Government.
“This project embodies Hon. Whingan’s deep commitment to education and his broader vision for community transformation through quality infrastructure,” the statement from his media team read.
The lawmaker’s office also expressed gratitude to UBEC for its partnership and reaffirmed that more people-centered projects are underway across Badagry in the areas of education, health, and infrastructure.
The construction of the Javie Community Primary School is part of Hon. Whingan’s drive to align Badagry’s development with the Lagos State THEMES+ Agenda and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, ensuring that rural communities are not left behind in the nation’s progress, statement from the office of the MHR says
