The management of Lagos State University (LASU) has directed that all courses with more than 400 students will now be conducted online due to a shortage of physical lecture rooms.
The directive, announced in a statement posted on the university’s official Facebook page, takes immediate effect. According to the statement, the move is part of LASU’s ongoing digitalisation efforts aimed at improving teaching and learning efficiency through technology-driven solutions.
“The Management of Lagos State University has directed that, with immediate effect, all courses with student enrolment exceeding four hundred (400) shall henceforth be conducted virtually,” the release stated. “This decision has become necessary in view of the current constraints posed by limited physical lecture room capacities and is in line with the University’s digitalisation drive.”
The management further instructed lecturers handling such large classes to make adequate arrangements for lectures, tutorials, and assessments through the university’s approved virtual learning platforms. Students affected by the directive are also required to fully comply and actively participate in all online engagements.
Deans of faculties and schools have been tasked with ensuring full enforcement of the directive and providing necessary coordination to guarantee its smooth implementation.
While acknowledging the challenges posed by limited facilities, the university expressed appreciation to staff and students for their cooperation and understanding as it continues to embrace innovation in line with its vision of becoming a leading institution of higher learning in West Africa.
