In a remarkable show of commitment to educational development and youth empowerment, the Executive Chairman of Badagry Local Government, Hon. Babatunde Hunpe, has presented 400 free GCE forms to indigent students across the council area.
The gesture, aimed at reducing the financial burden on parents and promoting equal access to quality education, is part of the council’s ongoing efforts to nurture academic excellence among young people in Badagry.
Speaking during the presentation ceremony held at the Badagry Local Government Secretariat, Hon. Hunpe, represented by the Vice Chairman, Hon. Akeem Adeyemi, described the initiative as a deliberate and strategic investment in the future of the community.
“We have resolved not just to provide educational support and incentives, but to be deliberate and strategic about how we do it, so that the purpose will be accomplished and the results will be visible for all to see,” he said.
The chairman urged the beneficiaries to take their studies seriously, describing the opportunity as a rare privilege that could transform their lives and make Badagry proud.
Hon. Hunpe also announced that the council had arranged free coaching classes for all recipients of the forms to ensure they are adequately prepared for their examinations. He further revealed that outstanding performers will receive free JAMB forms, bursaries, and scholarships as part of the council’s broader education support plan.
Acknowledging the contributions of partners, the council boss commended Mr. Samuel Mawuyon Ajose, founder of the SMA Foundation, for donating an additional 200 forms to complement the local government’s 200.
“This rare act of generosity and commitment to educational advancement is highly commendable,” Hunpe noted.
In his remarks, the Chairman, Committee on Education, Prof. J. P. Gbenu, encouraged the students to remain diligent, focused, and disciplined, stressing that education remains the strongest foundation for a brighter future.
Also speaking, the Council Manager, Mrs. Mary Abosede Olusanya, reaffirmed the council’s belief in education as a catalyst for personal and community transformation. She urged the students to “burn the midnight candle” and justify the government’s investment through hard work and excellence.
Adding colour to the event, the council also rewarded six winners of the Badagry Local Government Spelling Bee Competition, held on September 25, with ₦45,000 cash prizes each, further demonstrating its holistic commitment to promoting academic excellence.
The event was well attended by students, parents, teachers, and community leaders, who hailed the initiative as a beacon of hope and a significant step toward empowering the next generation in Badagry.
