The spirit of compassion and community upliftment took centre stage in Badagry as the Lagos State Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Pastor Cornelius Ojelabi, extended a heartwarming gesture to a visually impaired entrepreneur, Mr. Oladipupo Olasunkanmi.
Pastor Ojelabi, who was a special guest at the mega empowerment programme organised by the Deputy Chief Whip of the Lagos State House of Assembly and representative of Badagry Constituency II, Hon. (Engr.) Setonji David, made an instant donation of ₦250,000 to Mr. Olasunkanmi. The donation was to support the deep freezer the beneficiary received during the empowerment event and to help him establish a sustainable business.
The event, held at the Nigerian French Language Village, Badagry, attracted a large gathering of dignitaries, traditional rulers, community leaders, and jubilant constituents who came to witness what many described as a landmark empowerment initiative.
In his characteristic display of empathy, Pastor Ojelabi, after listening to Mr. Olasunkanmi’s story and seeing his determination to overcome physical limitations, immediately ordered a transfer of ₦250,000 to him on the spot. The crowd erupted in cheers, applauding the APC Chairman for his magnanimity and compassion.
Speaking at the event, Ojelabi commended Hon. Setonji David for his people-oriented leadership and his commitment to empowering his constituents despite the challenging economic climate.
“Hon. Setonji David has once again proven that leadership is about service and impact. What we are witnessing here today is genuine representation, one that changes lives directly,” he said.
The empowerment programme, which distributed deep freezers, sewing machines, grinding machines, barbing kits, generators, and ₦50,000 cash grants to over 250 beneficiaries, was designed to boost local businesses and alleviate the effects of the prevailing economic hardship.
Beneficiaries were drawn from various wards across Badagry Local Government and Olorunda Local Council Development Area, cutting across women, youths, artisans, small business owners, and persons with disabilities.
Hon. Setonji David, in his remarks, expressed gratitude to Pastor Ojelabi for his support and fatherly encouragement, describing his presence and instant gesture as “a true reflection of progressive leadership.”
“What Pastor Ojelabi did today is more than a donation; it’s a demonstration of love and a reminder that leadership is about touching lives,” he stated.
The event ended on a high note, with beneficiaries expressing heartfelt appreciation to both leaders for their unwavering commitment to the development and well-being of the people of Badagry.
In a season where economic challenges weigh heavily on citizens, the partnership between Hon. Setonji David and Pastor Cornelius Ojelabi stands out as a shining example of responsive and humane governance, one that uplifts, empowers, and restores hope.
