BREAKING: Lagos Upgrades Badagry General Hospital to Teaching Hospital

In a major development set to boost healthcare delivery and medical education in Lagos State, the Badagry General Hospital has officially been upgraded to a Teaching Hospital. This announcement was made by the Lagos State Commissioner for Tertiary Institutions, Mr. Tolani Sule, during a large-scale empowerment programme organized by the Deputy Chief Whip of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Hon. (Engr.) Setonji David, at the Nigerian French Language Village, Ajara, Badagry.

The commissioner’s disclosure came while addressing concerns raised by Prince Wale Adesina, a co-anchor of the event, over allegations that some major courses from the Lagos State University of Education (LASUED), Oto-Ijanikin Campus, had been transferred to the Epe Campus.

Though Mr. Sule did not outrightly deny the claims, he clarified that the state government had introduced a new Faculty of Management Sciences at the Oto-Ijanikin campus to replace the relocated courses.

He then went on to announce the approval of Badagry General Hospital’s upgrade to a Teaching Hospital, describing it as part of the state’s ongoing commitment to expand access to quality education and healthcare infrastructure.

“This upgrade will not only enhance the quality of medical training but also improve healthcare delivery for residents in Badagry and its environs,” Sule stated.

The Commissioner also revealed that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu had approved the establishment of several new higher institutions for Lagos State, including the Federal University of Science and Technology, which will be sited in Epe.
Setonji David Empowers Over 250 Constituents

The announcement came amidst an atmosphere of excitement and gratitude as Hon. Setonji David rolled out a massive empowerment initiative aimed at tackling the harsh economic realities faced by his constituents.

In his typical display of grassroots leadership, Setonji distributed deep freezers, sewing machines, grinding machines, barbing kits, large generators, and ₦50,000 cash grants to over 250 beneficiaries.

Beneficiaries were drawn from all wards in Badagry Local Government and Olorunda LCDA, including artisans, traders, women, youths, and persons with disabilities.

Speaking at the event, Hon. Setonji expressed that the empowerment scheme was borne out of his deep passion to uplift the less privileged and support small-scale entrepreneurs.

“This empowerment is my humble contribution to reducing poverty in our communities. It aligns with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, which focuses on empowering citizens and restoring confidence in governance,” Setonji said.

He emphasized that his goal is to build a more self-reliant and productive constituency, where every resident has the opportunity to thrive despite the economic challenges facing the nation.

The event was attended by top government officials, community leaders, traditional rulers, and enthusiastic constituents who commended Hon. Setonji for his continuous dedication to human development and community progress.

With the upgrade of Badagry General Hospital to a Teaching Hospital and the empowerment of hundreds of residents, the day marked a significant milestone in Badagry’s march toward growth, education, and economic resilience.
