The Nigerian Army has confirmed that troops under the Joint Task Force (North East), Operation HADIN KAI, neutralised eight members of the Islamic State of West Africa Province (ISWAP) during an encounter in Borno State.
According to a reliable military source who spoke with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), the clash happened in the early hours of Monday when terrorists ambushed soldiers near Garin Giwa, along the Baga–Cross Kauwa supply route.
The insurgents, who tried to disrupt military operations in the area, were met with fierce resistance from the troops. In the exchange, eight ISWAP fighters were killed, including two identified as Munzirs and one Qaid. Among them were Modu Dogo Munzir from Dogon Chukun, an unidentified Munzir, and Abu Aisha Qaid from Tumbun Mota.
Troops also recovered several motorcycles, a move the source said would further cripple the terrorists’ logistics and mobility.
The Theatre Command assured that it remains committed to wiping out terrorism in the North East and restoring peace to affected communities. Meanwhile, the military high command has praised the troops for their successful operation.
