A domestic quarrel between two sisters in Akure, the Ondo State capital, turned fatal after one of them died during a scuffle over just N800.
The incident, which has thrown the community into shock, involved 35-year-old Tewogboye Omowumi and her younger sister, Iluyemi Bosede. Reports say Bosede had confronted Omowumi, demanding the refund of the N800 she gave her to buy tomatoes and pepper.
What started as a mere argument soon escalated. Witnesses said Bosede held on to her elder sister’s clothes during the altercation, which caused Omowumi to fall to the ground. She was immediately rushed to the hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival.
Confirming the development, the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Ayanlade Olayinka Olushola, said the suspect, Bosede, has been arrested and is currently in custody as investigations continue.
In a statement, Olushola described the incident as a painful reminder of the dangers of letting minor disputes spiral out of control.
“This unfortunate outcome underscores how trivial disputes can spiral into irreversible consequences if not peacefully managed,” he said.
Also reacting, the Commissioner of Police,Lawal, called on residents to embrace dialogue and peaceful conflict resolution instead of resorting to violence. He assured that the police will ensure justice is served in the matter.
The tragic incident has left many residents of Akure in disbelief, with neighbors describing the sisters as usually close, making the shocking turn of events even harder to comprehend.
